My name is Colin Chase and I’ve
been painting and sculpting since the age of 10. I received a scholarship to the San
Francisco Art Institute where I honed my skills.
It was the fall of 2007 when we
finally moved to Arcata in Humboldt county. The county as a whole is an
art community. There is a lot of natural beauty here, with many places to hike,
take photos and commune with nature. If you're slow to commune with nature the
many foxes, raccoons and other wildlife will find you . . . as we have found out
with the frequent visitors that come into our back yard.
The misty winter mornings of Northern California have always inspired the
direction of my art, where one thing seems to blend into the next, and you never
know what’s around the corner. My art is best described as Post Modern
Abstractionism.
I
love working with earth tones, textures, and light washes. I primarily use
acrylics, but I will at times use mixed media and collage in my paintings.
